My wife and I are extremely pleased with our remodeling project at our newly acquired condominium at the Kaanapali Alii in Maui.

Zuma Development was our contractor and Jeff Drechsel, co-owner of Zuma was our point-of-contact. We had been introduced to Jeff and Zuma by the management of the Kaanapali Alii who had also introduced us to Mhel Ramos who served as our designer.

What made the project rather unique was our lack of direct involvement in the project. My wife and I were on the mainland. Jeff and his team, along with Mhel Ramos @ DesignLine Studio corresponded via email and exchanged photos during the entire project. The project itself was a complete interior remodel of our condominium.

The ~ $400,000 project included new appliances, lighting, cabinets, counter tops, floors, furniture, plumbing, architectural accents and artwork. The cost of the remodel was ~ $350,000 with ~ $50,000 invested in updated furniture, artwork and fees to the designer. The project was completed on schedule and on budget. We were very pleased with the end product. The Alii rates each condo unit in the extensive property. Our unit was rated a B- prior to the remodel. After the remodel our unit was re-rated at an ‘A’. This is the highest rating. Our condo is used by our family and friends but when we do not occupy the condo, we place the condo in a rental pool. Prior to the remodel our condo had nominal levels of rentals. After the remodel our condo has been rented nearly every day it is available for for-fee rentals.

The cooperation between Zuma and our designer was excellent. They did a great job keeping us informed. My wife, Jeff from Zuma and Mhel from DesignLine met during the planning stages of the project. We worked with our designer to select materials, plumbing, granite, flooring and other key elements of the project. Mhel Ramos (DesignLine) and Jeff @ Zuma drove the project management from then on.

It is important to mention the Alii has very restrictive rules relating to the type of work, hours of work and days on which work can be performed. This is due to the Alii being a top resort property that is rightfully focused on maintaining the highest standards of enjoyment for their guests. Jeff @ Zuma worked with the Alii management and our designer to keep the project on track and work within the Alii guidelines.

My wife and I highly recommend Jeff Drechsel and the Zuma Development team. We would absolutely use them again for any size project small to large.

I rarely write Houzz reviews, but in this case I have to make an exception. Zuma Development just completed the remodel of my condo at the Kapalua Golf Villas. I primarily worked with Jeff Dreschel, one of Zuma's owners. I have never had a better experience with a contractor. Jeff came in on budget and completed the project on time. If you have ever worked with a contractor, you know that contractors never come in on budget or on time. I cannot give Jeff and his team at Zuma enough praise. My condo was completely gutted and every aspect of the remodel was perfect. Jeff recommended a cabinet maker that made beautiful cabinets. I installed Versailles porcelain tile throughout the unit which was perfectly completed. One other aspect of Jeff is that he has a great design sense. We left it to him to choose the granite, paint color, doors and hardware, and every choice he made was perfect. Again, most contractors have no design sense, but Jeff is the exception. Finally, I should mention that Jeff pays attention to detail and informed us on practically a daily basis the status of the remodel. In summary, if you need a contractor, you would be making a mistake by not using Zuma Development.
